Assassin’s Creed 5 Won’t Be Set In Japan

Many fans were hoping that the next Assassin’s Creed game would take place in Feudal Japan. According to Ubisoft Toronto executive Jade Raymond, that won’t be happening.

In an interview with Adweek, Raymond put the rumor to rest and also hinted that the next game will feature her favorite historical era. She said “When we’re building a franchise, we’re thinking of a whole universe and how we’re developing a meta-story that could live on for many years in games and TV. If the story has nowhere to go, then you end up with the video game equivalent of The Matrix 2 or something where it’s never going to be quite as genius.”

Two months ago, there was a rumor that two Assassin’s Creed games would be coming out in 2014. Assassin’s Creed: Liberation was remade in HD earlier this year for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. Ubisoft has yet to clear up that rumor, but I’m assuming that was the first of the two Assassin’s Creed games this year.

I’m sure we’ll hear a confirmation from Ubisoft surrounding Assassin’s Creed V, but for now it is all speculation.

What historical era do you think Assassin’s Creed V will take place in?
